Founders at work - review

Posted by admin on September 20th, 2007 filed in Offtopic

If you work in e-business, run a website or just are interested in building an IT company one day, then you have to read Founders at Work from Jessica Livingston.

It’s certainly one of the most interesting 450 pages, that I’ve read. Full of valuable information and a great motivator for whatever you are doing. Interviews with Ray Ozzie, Tim Brady, Mike Lazaridis is just something you just can’t miss. So stop reading all my the boring blog posts and get this book:

Here a few quotes, that I thought are really funny and/or interesting:

Steve Wozniak (Co- founder Apple, net worth $45 million in 1985):

“At first it was quite a job to come up with the money, because the Intel processor was $400, It;s like coming up with $2000 nowadays”

Joe Kraus (Co-founder Excite) on giving up:

“…the persistence part is the part I like. It’s actually not fun when it’s happening, but you know it makes a difference because 99.9% of the people give up.

Mitchell Kapor (Co-founder Lotus development) about a meeting with VCs:

…The investor didn’t want to take any risk. It was absurd. They only do this because they can get away with it, because they have the money and you need it and “fuck you”. It’s just wrong, but…

Evan Williams (Co-founder Blogger.com) on what advice he would give to someone:

” I think one of the things that kills great things so often is compromise - letting people talk you out of what your gut is telling you.
