2007 - The Google year

Jeff Jarvis has compiled the 9 most remarkable stats on Google. Here my 3 favorites:

” Google’s traffic was up 22.4% in 2007 over 2006, according to Comscore.

Google controls 79% of the pay-per-click ad market, according to RimmKaufman. It controls 40% of all online advertising, according to web site HipMojo.

Google earned $15 billion revenue and $6.4 billion profit in 2007, a profit margin of 26.9%

Google certainly deserves their dominating position.  Even that I sometimes condemn Google, I am impressed in the quality of most of their products.

But a monopoly is not so great for all the smaller shops and in order to keep Google from taking over the web entirely (like in Europe), I would love to see a solid Adsense competitor to come up in 2008.

I believe an Adsense competitor especially for small publisher is the key to compete with Google. Search is lost…..it’s too late, but the agency business with it’s 30-50% margin is something that could break Google’s success story. Just too bad that Yahoo is too shady and Microsoft are not capable of coming up with something.
